Parent Update 26/09

Horsmonden Parent Update

Dear Parents and Carers

FoHPS are busy making the final preparations for our first ever colour run next Friday afternoon. Children will have the chance to run or walk through a fun obstacle course while being covered in safe, colourful powders! KS1 will take part first, followed by KS2.

Key Details:

  • What to Wear: children should bring a plain white T-shirt, comfortable shorts/leggings, and trainers they don’t mind getting colourful.
  • Safety: All colour powders are non-toxic, environmentally friendly, and safe for skin. Protective glasses will be provided to every child.
  • Cost: Entry is £5 per child, which covers colour powder, medals, and protective glasses. Please make payment via MCAS in the school shop.
  • Fundraising:
    • Children are encouraged to seek sponsorship for completing 10 laps of the course.
    • Additional paint powder sachets will be available to purchase on the day for £1 so parents can cover their little ones in paint too!
    • Refreshments will be available for parents to purchase.

Funds raised from this event will go towards class wish lists and help raise money for our new outdoor classroom. Please see the end of the letter for the class sponsorship forms. The class that raises the most money will receive a fun movie afternoon!

Healthy Snacks

Children in EYFS, Year 1 and Year 2 receive free fruit/vegetables each day through the School Fruit and Vegetable Scheme. Fruit/vegetables are available at morning break, and sometimes in the afternoons as well.

For children in Years 3, 4, 5 and 6 wishing to have a morning snack, a fruit based snack will need to be provided from home.

Morning snacks should be healthy and ideally just simple fruit/vegetables. If necessary, children may bring in a low sugar cereal bar containing no nuts, but please do not provide your child with coco pops cereal bars, cakes, crisps, pain au chocolat, donuts etc, as these are sugar rich and impact the children’s learning after break.

Attendance

Currently our whole school attendance is  96.8% but is being impacted by children who were late back to school after the summer break.

Your child’s attendance can be viewed on MCAS in the ‘Attendance’ tab. Anyone with attendance below 90% is classed as ‘persistently absent’ and this group is tracked very closely to ensure  improvements are made.

School Attendance is monitored very closely by the Local Authority and the Department for Education and the expectation of all schools/academies is that they promote the highest possible levels of attendance in children at all times. There is no exception here at Horsmonden.

Children with good attendance (above 95%) have more opportunities to enjoy learning and form lasting friendships, leading to them having a positive school experience and wanting to come to school everyday.

Facebook

Please take a look at our Facebook page for the latest updates about activities happening in school.

Behaviour and Conduct

I am pleased to share that our new system for rewarding behaviour has now been rolled out on MCAS, in the ‘Behaviour’ tab. The tab will show how many stars children have been awarded and for what reason. As a reminder, stars will be given to children for consistently showing either our Learner Profile Attributes or our Approaches to Learning.

Learner Profile Attributes

  • Balanced
  • Caring
  • Communicator
  • Inquirer
  • Knowledgeable
  • Open-minded
  • Principled
  • Reflective
  • Risk-taker
  • Thinker

Approaches to Learning

  • Communication Skills
  • Research Skills
  • Self-Management Skills
  • Social Skills
  • Thinking Skills

As always, if you have any questions or comments, please do not hesitate to get in touch. Mr Fenton and I are available on the gate most mornings, or alternatively, contact the school office to make an appointment.

Have a lovely weekend and I look forward to welcoming everyone back on Monday.

Kind regards

Hayley Sharp
