Parent Updates – 06/03

Horsmonden Parent Update

Dear Parents

It was fantastic to see the children all dressed up yesterday for World Book Day. They all enjoyed taking part in book related activities, including ‘Stop, drop and read’ where each time a bell was rung, everyone had to stop what they were doing, drop everything and read.

Thank you to those of you who took part in the FoHPS Wonka Bar fundraiser. For those children who won an own clothes day for their class, it will take place on the last day of term, Thursday 2nd April. Once again, a huge thank you to our FoHPS Team for organising the fundraiser and wrapping all the chocolate bars!

IB PYP Re-Evaluation Visit – Wednesday 11th and Thursday 12th March

As an IB World School, we are committed to providing a globally recognised, high-standard education for the children of Leigh Academy Horsmonden. To maintain this prestigious status, we undergo a rigorous re-evaluation process every five years (with the first occurring four years after our initial authorisation). This isn’t just a check-box exercise; it is a deep, reflective journey involving our entire learning community – teachers, children, and parents alike. The process begins with a comprehensive self-study, where we examine our teaching practices, curriculum alignment, and children’s outcomes against the IB’s global standards. This is followed by a site visit from an IB evaluation team, who observe lessons and meet with stakeholders to verify our progress and provide expert feedback. This cycle ensures we continue to foster the inquiry-driven, compassionate mindset that defines an IB education.

Fabulous Females – Friday 13th March, drop in between 2:15pm – 3:00pm

We warmly invite all the fabulous females in our community to join us at school on Friday, between 2:15 pm and 3:00 pm, to celebrate Mother’s Day. We welcome mothers, or any other significant female figure in a child’s life, to participate in a special activity with their child. A selection of cakes, organised by Year 6, will be on offer in the hall for a small donation towards the Year 6 Legacy fund.

Parent Consultations – Wednesday 25th and Thursday 26th March, 3:30pm – 6:00pm

Our second round of Parent Consultations will take place on 25th and 26th March and appointments will be 10 mins long. Parents will have the opportunity to discuss their child’s learning, progress and areas for development. You will also be able to look through their Maths, Skills and Inquiry books. Parents will be informed as to whether their child is working towards, at or above the level of attainment expected for their age. To book an appointment, parents will need to use the ‘Parents Evening’ section of MCAS. Bookings will open at 8am on Monday 9th March and close at 3pm on Friday 13th March. Please note that the only clubs running on the evenings of Parent Consultation will be Football Club for KS2 on Wednesday and Premier After School Club on both days.

Kind regards

Hayley Sharp
