Parent Update – 3rd December

Horsmonden Parent Update

Dear Parents

Following the dates and information that has previously been shared, please find a summary below of all our Christmas events taking place before the end of term:

Wednesday 10th December – Wreath Making Workshop for Y6

Further to the letter already shared, please find below a reminder for this event:

Year 6 children should come to school on Wednesday 10th December with the following, where possible please:

  • an apron/old big T shirt to keep them clean
  • a pair of secateurs if possible (please label them with your child’s name and hand to Miss Card on the morning)
  • a big bag of evergreen foliage (berried ivy, pine, fir, a little bit of holly, laurel, bay). Please label the bag and leave outside the school office on the morning
  • any items from home to use as decoration, e.g. small baubles, ribbon, pine cones, cinnamon sticks, pieces of dried fruit

The cost of the workshop, which will cover the wreath ring, string and wire, is £5.50 which should have already been paid on MCAS.

Thursday 11th December – Christmas Lunch

Children will be able to choose between a traditional roast turkey dinner with all the trimmings or a sage and onion pastry roll. Please see the menu here.  Please note that there will be no rolls, pasta or jacket potatoes on this day.

Thursday 11th December – Choir performance

Further to information already shared with the parents of children who attend choir, please see below for a reminder:

The choir will be performing for the ‘Horsmonden Wednesday Afternoon Club’ after their Christmas Lunch, held at Horsmonden Village Hall on Thursday 11th December at 1:30pm. Mrs Wenham has been working hard with the children to ensure they are ‘performance ready’ and they are now eager to share what they’ve learned. As permission for local activities has already been given, no further action is required. The choir will be accompanied by Mrs Wenham and me.

Friday 12th December – FoHPS Christmas Capers

This will be a non uniform day where children and staff are encouraged to wear their Christmas jumpers. There will be no charge for this, it’s just for fun!

All children will take part in a Christmas Craft Activity led by FoHPS and will also visit the Christmas Present Fair and Santa’s Grotto. Please see the separate letter about Christmas Capers here for a reminder of all the details. Thank you once again to FoHPS for organising such a fun-filled christmassy day for everyone!

Monday 15th December – KS2 Carol Service Rehearsal

Further to information shared on 14th November, please a reminder about the Carol Service Rehearsal below:

In order for KS2 children to rehearse in situ for their Carol Service, I am kindly requesting that on Monday 16th December, children in Years 3, 4, 5 and 6 are dropped off at St Margaret’s Church between 8:40am and 9am. Anyone with children in EYFS/KS1 as well as in KS2 should drop their younger children off at school first, before heading to the Church. Children will need to wear their school uniform, including a jumper and a coat, as the Church can get very cold. They will also need a healthy snack and filled water bottle. The rehearsal will end at 12pm, and again, I am kindly requesting that children are collected from Church at this time and returned to school for lunch, where they will have their usual lunch. I appreciate how difficult this will be for working parents, so please try to share lifts with other parents where possible. I am hoping that giving everyone a month’s notice helped to support parents in arranging shared lifts. Thank you in advance for your support with this.

Tuesday 16th December, 5pm – KS2 Carol Service at St Margaret’s Church

Please see below for a reminder of information previously shared:

The KS2 Carol Service will feature a selection of carols, some being sung by the children and some by the congregation, including parents and staff, as well as readings, reflections and drama. I am kindly requesting that children are taken to the Church at 4:30pm, ready for a 5pm start. Parents and family are welcome to attend the service, but please be advised that parking is extremely limited so I would encourage car sharing where possible. There will be parking attendants on duty from the Church, and school, to support everyone to park safely and in designated areas only.

Wednesday 17th December – EYFS Nativity, 2:00pm

Parents with children in EYFS are invited to join us for the very special EYFS Nativity and will have the option to take their children home a little earlier than usual after the performance has ended. If preferred, children will be able to remain in school and attend Premier After School Club if necessary.

Thursday 18th December – Rocksteady Concert, 10am

Parents of children who attend Rocksteady are welcome to join us for their end of term, Christmas Concert.

Thursday 18th December – KS1 Nativity, 2pm

Parents with children in Year 1 or Year 2 are invited to join us for the KS1 Production, ‘Camelangadingdong’ at 2pm on Thursday 18th December. There will be 3 tickets allocated to each child and these will be sent home in due course. As with the EYFS Nativity, if the performance finishes earlier than the end of the school day, parents are welcome to take their children early.

Friday 19th December – Christmas Music Concert, 9:15am

This Christmas, our music concert will feature performances from a range of children showcasing a variety of instruments. Our newly formed choir will be making an appearance, as well as children who have lessons with Katie Slowgrove or Richard Milford.

As always, if you have any feedback, questions or queries, please do not hesitate to contact me. You could catch me on the gate in the morning/afternoon, email, or make an appointment at the school office.

Kind regards

Hayley Sharp
