Parent Update – Friday 29th November 2024

Horsmonden Parent Update

Dear Parents

As we head quickly towards December and the start of our Christmas Activities, I am writing to confirm the details of the events we have planned:

Monday 2nd December – Decorating the Christmas Tree
Thank you to Lorraine Curd, Grandmother to Ophelia and Emmie, for providing us with a Christmas tree from her farm in Yalding again this year. On Monday, the children will take part in our ‘Decorating Assembly’ to mark the start of the festive season.

Friday 6th December – Christmas Coffee Morning with Mrs Sharp and Mr Fenton
Parents are invited in for a catch up with Mr Fenton and me, as well as enjoying a hot drink and a mince pie.

Wednesday 11th December – Christmas Lunch
Children will be able to choose between a traditional roast turkey dinner with all the trimmings or a vegan wellington. Please see the menu here.  Please note that there will be no rolls, pasta or jacket potatoes on this day.

Friday 13th December – FoHPS Christmas Present Fair
This will be a non uniform day where children and staff are encouraged to wear their Christmas jumpers. There will be no charge for this, it’s just for fun!

Monday 16th December – Wreath Making Workshop for Year 6
More details will follow to Year 6 parents in due course.

Tuesday 17th December, 5pm – KS2 Carol Service at St Margaret’s Church
I am delighted to confirm that we will be returning to St Margaret’s Church for our KS2 Carol Service this year, following a few years of holding it here. The service will feature a selection of carols, some being sung by the children and some by the congregation, as well as readings, reflections and drama. I am kindly requesting that children are taken to the Church at 4:30pm, ready for a 5pm start. Parents and family are welcome to attend the service, but please be advised that parking is extremely limited so I would encourage car sharing where possible. There will be parking attendants on duty from the Church, and school, to support everyone to park safely and in designated areas only.

Monday 16th December – KS2 Carol Service Rehearsal
In order for the children to rehearse in situ for their Carol Service, I am kindly requesting that on Monday 16th December, children in Years 3, 4, 5 and 6 are dropped off at St Margaret’s Church between 8:40am and 9am. Anyone with children in EYFS/KS1 as well as in KS2 should drop their younger children off at school first, before heading to the Church. Children will need to wear their school uniform, including a jumper and a coat, as the Church can get very cold. They will also need a healthy snack and filled water bottle. The rehearsal will end at 12pm, and again, I am kindly requesting that children are collected form Church at this time and returned to school for lunch, where they will have their usual lunch. I appreciate how difficult this will be for working parents, so please try to share lifts with other parents where possible. Thank you in advance for your support with this.

Wednesday 18th December – EYFS Nativity, 2:15pm
Parents with children in EYFS are invited to join us for the very special EYFS Nativity and will be able to take their children home a little earlier than usual after the performance has ended. If preferred, children will be able to remain in school and attend After School Club if necessary.

Thursday 19th December – KS1 Nativity, 2pm
Parents with children in Year 1 or Year 2 are invited to join us for the KS1 Production, ‘Lights, Camel, Action’ at 2pm on Thursday 19th December. There will be 2 tickets allocated to each child and these will be sent home in due course. As with the EYFS Nativity, if the performance finishes earlier than the end of the school day, parents are welcome to take their children early.

As always, if you have any feedback, questions or queries, please do not hesitate to contact me. You could catch me on the gate in the morning/afternoon, email, or make an appointment at the school office.

Have a lovely weekend.
Kind regards

Hayley Sharp
