Parent Update Friday 7th March 2025

Horsmonden Parent Update

Dear Parents

World Book Day was a fun day for all involved last week! The children loved seeing the staff making an effort as ‘Aliens Love Underpants’ and we all enjoyed seeing them excited to show off their costumes. They enjoyed taking part in book related activities as well as choosing a book to take home to mark the occasion. Thank you so much to our fabulous FoHPS Team for organising the books, chocolicious bars and the winning prizes. There are still a handful of prizes left to claim which can be done so via the school office.

Starfish Malawi

Following the visit from Chris Knott from Starfish Malawi last week, the Horsmonden Huddle have proudly announced that we intend to send our friends at Chapita Primary some resources in the next shipping container in May.

The Huddle have 2 ideas:

  1. To fill a water bottle with stationery items
  2. To fill a small shoe box with stationery items, small toys

The idea is that children can find a pre-loved water bottle (that is still fully functional) from home, or a small shoe box to fill with pre-loved items that are still of good quality.

For anyone wishing to donate, please bring your boxes/water bottles in after Easter.

Own Clothes Day – Friday 21st March

On Friday, March 21st, we’re holding a special non-uniform day to make a real difference! For a donation of up to £5 (payable via MCAS), children can wear their own clothes. All funds raised will go to our partner school, Chapita Primary in Malawi, to buy much-needed tables and chairs. This will allow their children to learn comfortably, rather than sitting on the floor all day.

Horsmonden Playground Renovation Working Party

The Parish Council needs your input! They’re forming a working party to design renovations for the playground next to Horsmonden Kindergarten and are looking for a parent to participate. If you’re interested, please email Anna Blyth, Deputy Clerk, Horsmonden Parish Council: deputyclerk@horsmonden-pc.gov.uk

Horsmonden Community Litter Pick – Saturday 22nd March, 10:30am

We are proud to be working in conjunction with Horsmonden Parish Council and Horsmonden WI to support the Great British Spring Clean 2025. If you are interested in joining us to spruce up our village, please meet at school for a 10:30am start. Please see the attached flyer for  more information.

Parking – Hoath Meadow

I’ve had reports from Hoath Meadow residents about parents parking on the pavements again. I  understand parking can be challenging, but please avoid parking on any pavement in the village. When pavements are blocked, people with young children are forced to walk in the road, which is very dangerous.

Cricket Club

I am pleased to share there are still a handful of places available at our new Cricket Club – Calypso Cricket. Calypso Cricket aims to adapt the traditional idea of coaching cricket, building on the basics to coach the more entertaining aspects of the game, from the flamboyant shots to spinning it round corners. Calypso will be offering after school coaching sessions at Horsmonden on Thursdays and for more information and details of how to book, please follow the link

Parent Consultations – Wednesday 26th and Thursday 27th March, 3:30pm – 5:30pm

Parent Consultations will take place in a couple of weeks time. Appointments will be 10 mins long and give parents the opportunity to discuss their child’s learning, progress and areas for development. You will also be able to look through their Maths, Skills and Inquiry books. Parents will be informed as to whether their child is working towards, at or above the level of attainment expected for their age.

As with the November consultations, we will be using the ‘Parents Evening’ section of MCAS for parents to book appointments. More information about this will follow, but in the meantime, please familiarise yourselves with the app in readiness for booking.

Ordering Lunches on MCAS

I’m happy to share that the MCAS lunch ordering system is now in use throughout the whole school. Thank you to everyone who has started using it to order lunches for their children. Our aim is to have all parents ordering through the app, which will allow us to move away from on-the-day orders after Easter. We appreciate your cooperation as we make this transition.

As always, If you have any feedback, questions or queries, please do not hesitate to contact me. You could catch me on the gate in the morning/afternoon, email, or make an appointment at the school office.

Kind regards

Hayley Sharp
